Rōvn KPI Definitions
Updated: 2026-07-22, aligned to Rōvn master canon generation 8 (effective 2026-07-21). Purpose: precise definitions for the metrics used in Rōvn's financial model and investor reporting. Status: pre-launch. Nothing on this page is a measured result; every metric reads zero or not-applicable until the underlying activity exists.
1. North Star compass: zero-rework Work Activation rate
Definition: the percentage of new organization-specific Work Activations completed without asking the worker to resubmit evidence already held and still valid.
Adopted 2026-07-16 by the founder exercising board authority, superseding the prior already-cleared-rate compass. The already-cleared rate is retained as a supporting cluster-density measure feeding the compass.
Measured value today: none. The compass is instrumented in the first pilot, and no compass number is ever quoted externally without the measurement behind it.
2. Billable unit: active monitored lives
Definition: persons Rōvn continuously keeps clear. This is the invoice unit. Work Relationships and Work Activations are cost, telemetry, and margin sub-units beneath it, never the invoice driver. A second Work Relationship for the same person is reuse, and reuse never raises price within a band.
Derived measure: revenue per monitored life, with per-Work-Relationship economics tracked beneath it.
3. Standard finance metrics (definitions)
Target values for these metrics are set with the board once a first paying cohort exists. Nothing is measured today.
| Metric | Definition | Formula |
|---|---|---|
| ARR | Annualized run-rate of recurring revenue contracts at period end. Excludes one-time implementation fees and source-fee pass-throughs. | MRR at period end x 12, plus annualized platform-contract portions |
| NRR | Net revenue retention of a cohort after expansion, contraction, and churn. | (Starting ARR + expansion - contraction - churn) / starting ARR |
| GRR | Gross revenue retention before expansion; isolates churn. | (Starting ARR - contraction - churn) / starting ARR |
| CAC | Fully loaded cost to acquire one paying organization. | Sales and marketing spend / new paying organizations in period |
| LTV | Gross profit from an organization over its tenure. | Annual contract value x tenure (years) x gross margin |
| Burn multiple | Capital efficiency of growth. | Net cash burned in period / net new ARR added in period |
| Rule of 40 | Growth plus profitability heuristic. | ARR growth percent + EBITDA margin percent |
| Quick ratio | Good ARR movement over bad ARR movement. | (New ARR + expansion ARR) / (downgrade ARR + churn ARR) |
4. Facility outcome metrics
- Time from roster import to first useful risk surfaced.
- Accepted-offer-to-clear-to-start time.
- Clear-to-practice time by site and scope; clear-to-bill time by organization, TIN, site, and payer.
- Time from detected risk to named-human decision.
- Coordinator touches and minutes per Resolution Case.
- Worker asks and repeated-evidence requests (the duplicate outreach rate; the routine-path target is zero).
- Blocked clinician-days recovered; starts, shifts, privileges, and bills protected.
- Enrollment denials and write-offs; temporary coverage, overtime, and premium labor avoided.
- Human-review backlog and aging; readiness and assignment invalidation latency.
Every facility outcome is measured against that facility's own baseline, captured during discovery. Rōvn does not promise a savings percentage before the baseline exists.
5. Worker metrics
- Hard liveness targets on the first deposited roster: at least 40 percent of deposited Passports claimed by the worker, and at least 25 percent of claimed Passports active in the trailing 90 days.
- Passport claim and completion rates; repeat return rate.
- Evidence reuse with consent; avoided duplicate uploads.
- Worker response time; renewal completion; disputes resolved.
- Opportunities received and accepted under explicit consent.
6. Network metrics (the falsifiable test)
- First versus second Work Activation time and cost. If the second Work Activation is not materially faster and cheaper than the first, the network thesis is wrong. This is a kill criterion, not a vanity metric.
- Active monitored Work Relationships; organization density per worker cohort.
- Workers with evidence usable in more than one context; cross-organization reuse rate.
- Source coverage; facility expansion and reference rate.
7. AI and trust metrics
- Extraction accuracy by field and document class; abstention and human-correction rate.
- Policy-evaluation determinism.
- Hallucinated source facts: target zero.
- Unreviewed regulated decisions: target zero. AI never approves, hires, rejects, credentials, or screens out anyone.
- Unauthorized data access: target zero.
- Receipt completeness across source checks, outreach, extraction, policy application, human decisions, and invalidations.
- Dispute and adverse-action SLA.
8. Unit economics
- Cost per completed Work Activation, tracked as a first-class margin metric.
- Cost of the first versus the second Work Activation for the same person.
- Gross margin after source, AI, communications, and trust-operations costs.
- Implementation payback period and customer hours required to go live.
- Coordinator labor displaced, priced at the facility's loaded labor cost.
- Source cost concentration and exception rate and cost.
The margin story is cost-side: reuse and monitoring lower the cost to serve the next Work Activation. Reuse is never billed to the customer as an event; see 02.2 Pricing and Packaging.
9. Glossary
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Work Activation | Approved to start, with proof: the evidence-backed, policy-specific, named-human-approved state allowing one person to perform one defined scope of work for one organization in one context. |
| Active monitored life | A person Rōvn continuously keeps clear; the billable unit. |
| Work Relationship | Organization-confirmed relationship between a worker and an employer, contractor, agency, or facility; a sub-unit under the monitored life. |
| Resolution Case | The single deduplicated owner of one missing, expiring, ambiguous, or disputed piece of work. |
| Receipt | Signed, auditable proof of a source check, agent action, human decision, or Work Activation. |
| Passport claim | A worker taking control of a deposited Passport record. |
| Zero-rework rate | The North Star compass defined in section 1. |
